CeSHHAR Awarded the World’s First Gold Tier Certification for Good Financial Grant Practice.
The Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP) is a new international standard developed by the Global Grant Community and the African Academy of Sciences in Nairobi, Kenya in collaboration with multiple African and global partners.
It has been supported by some of the world’s largest public and private sector funders including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, formerly UKAID, Wellcome, UK Research and Innovation, the UK Dept. of Health & Social Care, the IKEA Foundation, the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership, the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development and Co-ordinating Agency.
The GFGP is a common global standard for good grant management practice that grant receivers must meet before funders entrust them with their financial grants, bringing rigour and reassurance to even the highest risk funding environments.
In 2020, CeSHHAR’s financial and operational systems were rigorously assessed by the international accounting firm Price Waterhouse Cooper over three months. CeSHHAR had to fulfill over 300 requirements on their grant management processes, procedures and policies in four areas: Financial Management, Human Resources, Procurement and Governance.
“The GFGP Gold certification not only demonstrates that CeSHHAR has world-class, robust finance and operations systems but it also means that CeSHHAR will not have to complete multiple, lengthy and laborious assessments for every grant application it submits. CeSHHAR can produce its GFGP certificate, and a donor knows it can trust its funds will be utilised and accounted for appropriately. CeSHHAR instead can concentrate on implementation of its large portfolio of HIV prevention and sexual health research and programmatic projects.” Finance and Operations Director, Cynthia Chipeni.
CeSHHAR is the fifth organisation to be certified and first to be awarded Gold globally.
“At LSTM we are very supportive of the GFGP certification. A common standard of what represents best practice in grant management is welcomed by donors and grantees alike. We are very pleased that CeSHHAR has received its GFGP Gold certificate, and we are looking forward to the CeSHHAR and LSTM teams supporting other partners to attain GFGP certification”. Duncan Preston, LSTM Finance Director.
