Message from the chair

The Centre has, yet again, seen remarkable achievements in 2023. The team continues to grow in unity, initiative, capacity, quality, as well assize.

As we grow, and have become one of the larger Zimbabwean health organisations, it has become more clear than ever that CeSHHAR is an excellent research and implementing partner for donors and(inter)national collaborators alike. The diversification of the portfolio over the past year, especially with the increase of the climate-health work, has helped our sustainability, but has also given us a new, and more holistic image: one of a transdisciplinary health organisation.

The organisation now has increasing post-doctoral capacity, including in social science and medical anthropology, geospatial and data science, health science, pharmaceutical science, implementation science, epidemiology, and more. Excitingly, we are eagerly awaiting the outcomes of two submitted PhD theses in statistics (Sungai Chabata),and health economics (Collin Mangenah). Moreover, it is pleasing to seethe research collaboration with LSTM growing, with now two more CeSHHAR members joining the LSTM Career Track in 2024 (Dr. Fortunate Machingura and Dr. Tatenda Makanga).

I also would like to acknowledge the great work of our program implementers, who tirelessly continue to serve the key populations most in need. The impact of this work can be seen among our target groups in Zimbabwe, but increasingly more broadly through the cross-border services with partners in Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique and Zambia. These achievements are thankfully also recognised by our donors. The visit of the UNAIDS executive Director and the Global Fund Executive Director to our CeSHHAR clinics attest to the good quality work.

I could not be more proud of the steady advancements we are making, and would like to finish by thanking all those involved in our work. I thank
you for the achievements in 2023, and look forward to your continued support in 2024.
