On Thursday February 23rd 2023, a senior delegation of CeSHHAR visited the Midlands State University. The visit included a lecture which was delivered by Prof Stanley Luchters.
During the lecture, Stanley talked about CeSHHAR’s work on climate change and health, and pointed out how climate change is the single greatest threat to humanity, according to the UN. He also spoke about the data science work CeSHHAR is conducting as part of the HE2AT center, which seeks to develop data science solutions to mitigate adverse effects of climate change on maternal and child health. The event was officiated by the PVC-Research and Innovation, Prof Grace Mugumbate, who gave opening remarks and Prof Laurine Chikoko (Executive Director – Research and innovation).
The event attracted over 130 people which included academic staff and students in Faculties of Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Medicine among others.
Prior to the talk, the CeSHHAR team, which included Dr Webster Mavhu, Dr Tatenda Makanga and Miss Cherlynn Dumbura, held a closed-door meeting with MSU Principals concerning strengthening existing MSU (Place Alert Labs) and CeSHHAR collaborations on research as well as fostering new collaborations with other departments.
